FuzzyBot, a studio founded in 2020 by Ubisoft, Bungie, and EA veterans, set out to create an ambitious multiplayer game that seamlessly blends roguelite action, town-building mechanics, and co-op gameplay. With a small team, they sought a robust backend solution to deliver seamless player transitions, on-demand dedicated servers, and offline-to-online persistence. By partnering with AccelByte early in development, FuzzyBot brought their innovative vision for Lynked: Banner of the Spark to life without additional backend engineers on staff.
AccelByte's support saved FuzzyBot on additional engineering costs and accelerated the game's launch timeline by half a year, allowing the team to focus on creating an exceptional player experience.
Mission and Vision of FuzzyBot
FuzzyBot aims to create social, community-driven gaming experiences that foster organic friendships. Their mission is to deliver games that allow players to connect meaningfully through collaborative gameplay or casual interactions in shared spaces. With Lynked, FuzzyBot envisioned a game that lets players seamlessly navigate between social town-building and action-packed missions, creating a consistent and immersive world.
About the Game: Lynked: Banner of the Spark
Lynked: Banner of the Spark is a hybrid roguelite action and town-building game where players can construct towns with friends, fish and craft resources, and embark on challenging missions. The game's unique design allows players to explore active towns hosted by others while encouraging a sense of community and organic social interactions. Players can bring their loot from missions back to their town to progress, adding strategic depth to the gameplay.
From Vision to Launch: Development Journey
FuzzyBot started developing Lynked in 2021 to create a seamless social co-op experience. Early in the development process, the studio partnered with AccelByte to support the need for a scalable backend to manage the game's unique demands. Initially using another platform for dedicated servers, the team transitioned to AccelByte Multiplayer Servers (AMS) in 2024 to achieve better performance and integration.
The Technical Challenges
FuzzyBot faced several key challenges in bringing Lynked to life with a lean team of just five developers:
Dynamic server transitions – They needed a backend capable of spinning up and transitioning between Town Servers and Mission Servers without disrupting player immersion.
On-demand hosting – Because Lynked isn’t a persistent MMO, it was critical to minimize costs by only running servers when needed.
Offline-to-online persistence – The team needed reliable data synchronization so players’ progress and town states remained consistent across sessions, platforms, and play modes.
Observability and debugging – Without dedicated backend engineers, FuzzyBot required tools to monitor game health, inspect logs, and quickly address crashes or data corruption without engineering overhead.
How AccelByte Helped
AccelByte provided the tools and expertise FuzzyBot needed to overcome its challenges and deliver Lynked on time and within budget.
Real Results
With AccelByte's support, FuzzyBot saved six months of development time and avoided additional costs for backend engineering resources, letting the team stay focused on building the game itself. Players can seamlessly transition between Town and Mission Servers, thanks to AccelByte's on-demand hosting, which keeps costs down without sacrificing performance. The team has relied on tools for monitoring and debugging to quickly fix crashes and ensure the game runs as intended. These benefits helped FuzzyBot bring Lynked to life on time and within budget while staying true to its creative vision.
As Lynked continued its progress through Steam Early Access and to full 1.0 launch on May 22, 2025, FuzzyBot continued to leverage AccelByte's tools for load testing, player engagement (e.g., Twitch Drops), and ongoing backend optimizations. The partnership has enabled FuzzyBot to focus on crafting memorable gameplay experiences without being bogged down by infrastructure challenges.
Partnering with AccelByte allowed FuzzyBot to transform its ambitious vision into reality. The team overcame complex backend challenges with dedicated support and focused entirely on crafting Lynked's innovative gameplay. Together, they've set the stage for Lynked to become a standout title, proving how innovative games can thrive with the right collaboration.
